Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute Of Technology, Surat is one of the 17 Regional Engineering Colleges that were established as joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat. It was established in June 1961 with facilities to run Bachelor's Degree Programmes in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering disciplines. It is now changed to National Institute of Technology along with other RECs. From the academic session 1978-79, the college switched over to the four year Degree programmes. In the year 1983-84, an under Graduate Course in Electronics Engineering had been introduced with an intake of 60 students. From the year 1988-89, two additional courses viz. Production Engineering and Computer Engineering were introduced with the approved intake of 30 students in each. From the year 1995-96 a degree course in Chemical Engineering had been introduced with an intake of 30 students which was later increased to 60 students from the year 1996-97.

It gives me immense pleasure to address this message to the stake holders of the ever growing Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT). Since, taking over the charge as Director w.e.f. 21/10/2005, tremendous efforts are being made in almost all fronts to develop this institute with whole hearted support of the Chairman, BOG's and all the members of BOG's, Finance Committee, Building & Works Committee, Purchase Committee, Senate, Registrar Incharge, Deans, all Heads of Departments / Section, Hostel Wardens, Librarian and staff of various Section.Global demand of Indian Technocrats is now increasing day by day and I am sure, the quality and quantity of technical education imparted by this Institute to promising young technocrats will definitely help building bright career ahead; thereby strengthening our society in general and the country in particular.

About SVNIT M.E/M.Tech Course :-

Master of Engineering or Master of Technology or Master of Science in Technology or Master of Engineering degree is a postgraduate program in engineering or technology field.ME/MTech degree program exposes students to a wide range of courses, combined with specialized research which culminates in a thesis. Such a combination gives students the breadth and depth necessary for pursuing careers in academics as well as industry.The residence requirements for ME/MTech program is four semesters. However, it is possible to get permission to spend one semester elsewhere. If someone wants to carry out the thesis work in a company, or at some other educational institution, it is allowed by the Institute.The scope of the course varies from material research to machinery development, Nano Technology, Smart materials, Aerospace Technology, Missiles technology, CAD/CAM, FMS, CIM, Automation and such other interrelated developments.
